Lesson 2: James 1:5-8
Worldly Expectations Upside-down!
Humble and High Circumstances
"The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position. But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower.
For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business."
(1:9-10)
Wisdom of the World?
"Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: 'He catches the wise in their craftiness'; and again, 'The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.'"
(I Corinthians 3:18-20)

Temptation

Favoritism will be discussed in Lesson 4 and Riches will be discussed in Lesson 10.
