"Now the men of Israel were in
distress that day, because Saul had bound the people under an
oath, saying, 'Cursed be any man who eats food before evening comes,
before I have avenged myself on my enemies!' So none of the troops
tasted food."
(I Samuel 14:24)
Jonathan did not know King Saul had bound
everyone to the no-food oath. He ate some
honey. When he heard about the no-food oath, he said:
"My father had made trouble for the country."
When the battle was over, what happened
because of King
Saul's no-food oath?
"They pounced on the plunder
and, taking sheep, cattle and calves, they butchered them on the ground
and ate them, together with the blood."
(I Samuel 14: 32-33/Leviticus
7:26,27)
