Uncle Noah,  Congratulations on a really cool web page.  I run two webpages and find it is hard to get all my stuff to work on the many different browsers.  I use Firefox a lot, and find that on the latest version of FF the following page doesn't display the area on the upper right, but it works fine in Internet Explorer.

Every Bible character is important because he/she is part of actual history. Noah was important because he was a righteous man in a horribly wicked world...and God used him to erase wickedness from the world for a while. His story was used as an example of the necessity of the purifying purpose of baptism in I Peter 3:18-23.

God wants folk who are married to stay together. It may be a matter of learning to like a spouse.
Why was Jesus ignored? Why wouldn't people just listen to the things he said?
What Jesus taught was radical. The religious leaders knew Jesus was making their life leadership unnecessary. They saw him as a threat to their way of life. Others just did not want to listen. And as fulfillment of prophecy so Jesus would die.

The Holy Spirit is one of 3 Spirits that make up God. (God the Father, God the Son and God the
Holy Spirit). He is referred to as the counselor or comforter.

The best way I know how to explain three Spirits in one is water. Water is found in 3 forms...solid, liquid and gas. All three forms have different functions.

In Hebrews ch 8, its talking about the priesthood and it talks about the new covenant.  In v. 7 what is the first covenant it mentions.  I believe it has something to do with Moses, but i don't know if it is the ten commandments or the covenant about them going to a land flowing with milk and hoeny.  Or an another one.  (Just to make sure the second covenant is the one involving Jesus being crucified for our sins 'John 3:16' or am i wrong). The Old Covenant is the Mosaic Law, which includes the 10 commandments. The Mosaic Law was given to the Israelites only (Heb. 8:8-12)...and was replaced by the New Covenant (v.13) The significance of blood is found in 9:11-15.
"When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

How long did it take Noah to build the ark?
When God called Noah it mentions his three sons Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Genesis 6) Shem was likely the oldest. In reading the context, we know Noah and Mrs. Noah did not have Shem for 500 years. Genesis 11:10 tells us Shem was 100 years old 2 years after the flood, so he was 97 or 98 when the flood came.
If we give just a reasonable number of years between the three sons, it took around 75 years to build the ark.

The Israelites were commanded to give a minimum of 10% of their income. On top of this they were provided ways to show appreciation by giving freewill offerings. One example is Exodus:36:3 where they could give to the building of the Sanctuary (tabernacle).
Have your students decide on a project and give either time of money to do the project. The emphasis should be their freewill offering should be what they earn or give personally...not what they can ask others to give.

Can a Christian drink wine as long as he/she doesn't get drunk and do it to where it will offend someone? What does the bible say?
There are 2 problems:
1. Do not get drunk.

The simple answer is that Jesus came to fulfill the covenant God gave to the Israelites...their special position. It was done through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. (Hebrews 9)

You might try to convince your teacher that none of the Mosaic Law is good enough. It has been abolished and replaced with the law of grace through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.
"But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises. For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another."

God gave Noah directions on how to build the ark. Noah had a cousin name Tubal-Cain who made all kinds of tools out of Iron and Bronze, and probably had a school to teach others how to use the tools. Why is it glorious in the story of Isaiah and Moses for them to slaughter people and steal their belongs to get into Israel? How could god have wanted so many children to be killed? It really bothered me when i read that part of the bible.
There are 3 things you need to consider:
1. The people that were killed were idol worshipers and had not treated God's people kindly. God had given them plenty of time to repent, and they had not. This is God's judgment on his enemies.
2. The problem of children being killed is another issue. First, children are not responsible and are spared lives of rebellion against God. They are in the presence of God for eternity.
3. God's judgment is sure. He even causes the enemies of Israel to punish Israel when they do not obey God.

Why did the Israelites not believe that God was the only God after God had done so many miracles to show them that that was true. Like for example the Red Sea opening and the manna and quail that fell from the sky. In one of your articles, you state that salvation=repent and be baptized. There are many good examples to support this. However, there is one clear example that I would love to hear your opinion on: that of the thief on the cross from the Gospel of Luke. Jesus told him that he would be with him in Paradise, but it is very clear that, although he repented (as shown by a study of the Greek word for "remember"), there was no chance for him to be baptized. Is there some kind of loophole for those that have run out of time to be baptized? Please let me know your thoughts on this scriptural example.
Good questions:
Yes! The thief was saved on the cross. And, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Samuel, David, Isaiah, Jeremiah, etc. were saved, but they were not baptized. Baptism was not an issue for them. The thief could not have been baptized into Jesus even if he wanted too. (Romans 6:1-4) Jesus had not yet shed his blood!
What happened to the thief on the cross is not relevant to our baptism discussion.

It sounds like you sister is trying to get you to change your life. I do not recognize all these specific statements. You need to ask your sister. But, there are many references to God as a jealous God. The first time is when God gave the 10 commandments. (Exodus 20:5) It is in the context of the people worshiping false, lifeless Gods. (Exodus 24:14)
The most important thing is your statement "Do I need to prove my faith, do more, change my ways."
Faith is a result of what we know about Jesus...Jesus is the Son of God, the Savior of the world. Without Him, we are hopelessly lost.
Faith is not proven by what I say...it is proven by what I do.
"What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? Many people claim to be saved...but live ungodly, immoral lives. A good place to get an idea of what Godly living is like, study Ephesians 4:17-5:7. If my life does not measure up to this standard, I need to make some changes. Another great study is the Sermon on the mount. (Matthew chapters 5-7)

Genesis 6:9-10...God called Noah. He had three sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth.
Genesis11:10...2 years after the flood, Shem was 100 years old.
Noah and his family were in the ark 1 year and 10 days.
If Shem was alive when Noah was called, Noah preached no more than 97 years. If all three of Noah's sons were alive when God called Noah, he probably did not preach over 80-85 years.

When Noah took the animals on the ark there was only one body of water. (Genesis 1:9) All the fish would be fresh water fish. How we have the difference between fresh water and salt water fish, I cannot tell you. But, since God created the fish, I suspect he build fresh and salt into their genes.

God does not murder anyone. God is the God of love...and justice. God had given all the people mentioned above plenty of time to repent of their wicked ways...and they refused.
There are several issues here:
1. Not every person who was killed was eternally condemned. (For instance: children who did not know better,)

I am just a New Testament Christian, doing my best to follow the pattern of sound teaching given by the Spirit of God. I used the KJV for years. After investigating the basic pattern found in the American Standard and the New International Versions (NIV), I started using the NIV because it is much easier to  understand. The KJV is a reliable version of the Bible, but couched in archaic language.

The issue is not whether you and your family should have your own Lord's supper in your home. It is that you are attending a church that is no longer following the New Testament pattern for worship.

I would suggest it would be good for your family to privately evaluate the church you are attending through our study of the church. Remember this is a private family issue. Do not make this an issue until your are convinced from your study that it is Biblical to take the Lord's Supper weekly.

The Mosaic law was for the Jews only. The Sabbath was part of the Mosaic Law...which was fulfilled in the sacrifice of Jesus. (Hebrews 8:13) Jesus was raised on the first day of the week (Sunday). You are right in saying Sunday is not the true Sabbath. The physical Sabbath no longer exists. Hebrews 4 talks about a spiritual rest for the people of God (Christians).

The key to  your premise is the word fulfilled. Jesus fulfilled the Mosaic law! (Hebrews 8) The Perfect sacrifice for sin (Jesus) made all other sacrifices obsolete. (Hebrews 10:18) Oops! Another part of the Mosaic Law is gone.
The Old and New Testament are not one. The New Testament is described as a will.(Hebrews 9:16) A will comes into affect when the person who wrote the will dies. Any other will (testament) is made void...and is no longer binding.
But, they are connected in the sense that the Old Testament is a shadow of the New, (Hebrews 10:1) and it is a teacher (Romans 15:4) that warns of things not to do. (I Corinthians 10:11)
Even after the Mosaic Law is fulfilled and made obsolete, you are right in saying the curse of the law is still with us. The curse is believing that anything other than the blood of Jesus can save us from our sins.

You asked a very valid and intelligent question about what we actually know from the Bible about those who are dead. 1.Those who have died are with the Lord and they have awareness of where they are.
2.Lazarus and the rich man knew where they were and who they were. Also, the rich man had a clear memory of his brothers still on earth.
3.There is no suggestion however that they can see the ongoing activities on earth.
You are right there are no tears in heaven and that would be hard to be true if those in heaven have to see all the problems on earth. However, that your Dad still knows you, loves you and wishes the best for you is a reasonable belief.

1. 13 years old is really young for any girl to be dating.

Well, I have a funny story here too!
It’s about a billion brainless telepathic cosmic tiny particles that fell into place, perfectly. Then held their breath for a billion years. While holding their breath, they ate food and pickled themselves in they’re own secretions. In the time that they are pickling themselves, they somehow moved out of their large mass of rotting secretions...without the ability to move. Jacob was not the man he should have been. He had not treated his brother Esau right and was on his way to meet him. The text says a man wrestled with Jacob all night. When this man saw he could not win he caused a limp in Jacobs walk.
The man blessed Jacob and changed his name to Israel (you have struggled with God and men and have overcome). The Bible does not tell us what all this means, but this event changed Israel from a devious man to a faithful man.

This is a difficult situation. Unfortunately, all these tales are not "all about Jesus". Somewhere back in history folk-stories and legends were adapted to Christianity...and Christians went along with the fantasy even when they knew they were not about Jesus. I do not know how to deal with this except to explain the situation, apologize and tell your children they are just fun, made up stories.

There is the idea that because of the first sin, every person since Eve has been born guilty of sin. This belief understands that baptism is necessary for salvation, so all babies must be baptized.

Salvation is based on belief. (John 3:16) A child does not have the ability to believe that Jesus is the Son of God. At the point of understanding, guilt becomes real and faith in Jesus leads to salvation.

I have been teaching the 4's and 5's in Sunday school. One 4 yr. was reduced to tears when we talked about Samson killing the lion. I felt so bad that I had done something to frighten her. Earlier in the term one little boy commented we shouldn't do that when telling about Joshua taking the Promised Land in battle. I explained to him why this was done through God, etc. and the next Sunday he acted blood thirsty, instead, and wanted to know if any people were killed in the next battle. I said, yes. Then he was happy and said , yaaaaay! I hope you see my problem. The Bible's violence is easier to explain to adults. I wonder if anyone has ever considered the way the Bible is taught to small children or if its updated in its choice of subject matter in relation to the age of the child. Have you ever taught Sunday school to a group of little ones? Probably not. It is usually women. I think some psychology is needed here to do a better job. What do you think? I am a mom and grandmother, but this has taken me aback and I feel unqualified.
I have taught small children. and I was taught the Bible stories when I was small. The reaction of your little student is not unusual...it is the nature of boys. Maybe the reaction of your little boy was because he is saturated by the violence in television, movies, video games, etc. If so, this is a parental problem. Your little girl is a sensitive soul.
Regardless of cultural circumstance, if we take all the violence and evil out of the Bible, we have not told the real story of the great love and judgment of God. How can we teach the most important story in the Bible without telling our children about the crucifixion of Jesus?

It is interesting that Bible writers very seldom dwell on the violence. They state it simply and go on. The emphasis is on the reason for violence...anger, judgment, etc.

There are many religions in the world that worship different gods. The challenge all of us face is: How do we know which god is the real God?
There is no god like the God of the Bible! The God of the Bible is loving, gracious and is involved in our lives. He is our creator and knows what is best for His creation. He protects us by telling us what to do and not do. He does not want any of us to be lost, and has provided a way for us to be saved and live with Him forever. This way is Jesus, the Son of God. Since the God of the Bible is loving, just and absolutely fair, those who are not in Jesus will be lost forever because of their lack of faith.
God does not expect us to have blind faith, so He has provided His word (the Bible).
Since Jesus is the primary focus of the Bible, proving Jesus was actually raised from the dead provides a solid basis for our faith.

The answer is the conversation with Nicodemus in John 3:1-15. Jesus tells Nicodemus that he had to be born again with water and the Spirit. In Acts 2:38, Peter tells believers to be baptized for the remission of sins and to receive the Spirit.
Mark 16:16 says: "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved." If a person does not believe, there is no desire to be baptized. According to Acts 2:38, we get forgiveness of sins at the point of baptism. In Acts 8:26-39 Philip taught the gospel to the Ethiopian. Baptism was obviously part of the gospel because the Ethiopian (a believer) asked to be baptized.

Although I do not know the particulars related to your question, I do know the at in Ephesians 5:28 God instructs men to love their wives as they would love their own bodies. The Lord wants husbands to treat their wives with love and consideration.  In Romans chapter 13 we see that God has appointed the government to protect people.  Women have rights under the government and beating another person is a breaking of the law.  In 1 Corinthians 7:11 we see that God allows couples to separate although it is His desire that they reconcile and try to work things out.  The problems in a marriage are often complicated and yet we can be active in prayer that they Lord will touch the hearts of all concerned.

Urges are to be used in God's purpose in the marriage relationship (one man and one woman)...and not before marriage.
There is one other issue that is very important:
It is not healthy for a person of any age to look at, listen too and read about these things. Television, movies, modern music, magazines, etc. are full of tempting things. Avoid them!

The church is the body of Christ on earth. It is made up of all who have been baptized into Christ and have had their sins forgiven.
Jesus is the head of the church. The worship and organization of the body (church) are what is normally called the parts of the church. Actually these things are like the actions of a human body...they are the result impulses from the head.

Time is generally measured from the date of the birth of Jesus. Jesus was 30 years old when he started his ministry in Luke 3:23. He died about 3 1/2 years later, so he died in 33 A.D...just under 2,000 years ago.

I do not know of a study of the details of the lives of the 12 disciples. The details we know are found in the New Testament books. All we know about some of them is their name. What we read in worldly history books is not always reliable.  The best way I know is to go to a resource like biblegateway.com and put in the keyword of each disciples name.

The challenge is to define the balanced life. Living for God is not what most people would call balanced. Giving up much of what the world offers is not normally considered balanced. Being tolerant of what the world does is not considered balanced. Speaking out against sin when it could cost one his/her life is not considered balanced living.

The story is in John 20:24,25. We have not yet developed textual material in the gospel books that is not included in the book of Luke.
In my opinion, Thomas was not so much a doubter, but a person that wanted to see the evidence before making a judgment. He might have been very much like the Bereans.

This is probably a little late since Father's Day is tomorrow. A key passage is Ephesians 6:1-3.
"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your father and mother"—which is the first commandment with a promise—that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.'"
We are to always honor our parents, but obey them in the Lord.
A great example is Jesus honoring his mother when He was on the cross. (John 19)

I'm a new teacher and I need something to teach children ages 3 to 4 years old on the holy spirit.
All children at this age need to know is that there is a Holy Spirit, and he works in the lives of Christians. They do not need to know that the Spirit is part of what is called the God head. It will be confusing to them. They will learn the significance and work of the Holy Spirit later.
