The claims of Christ:
No one could kill him.
"The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up
again.
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father."
(John 10:17,18)
Jesus had power over the circumstances of his life.
He had the power to prevent others from killing him until the time was right.
The gospel is based on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus
He said he would be crucified.
"We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!"
(Matthew 20:18,19)
He said when he was going to die.
"It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love."
(John 13:1)
