makes this observation in a comparison of Jesus and Confucius.
If it could be proven beyond a doubt, the Confucius never lived,
Confucianism would probably survive. The reason is that Confucianism is
based on the teaching of Confucius instead of Confucius. But, if it could
be proven that Jesus never lived, Christianity would immediately collapse
because it is based on the life, teachings, death and resurrection of
Jesus.
F. F. Bruce says: "Some writers may toy with the fancy of the Christ-Myth, but they do not
do so on the ground of historical evidence."
