Jesus is Raised From the Dead

Concept:
God is all-powerful! God controls nature!
Bible Lesson:
Jesus is raised from the grave (Matthew 28:1-10)
Application:
God has power over death!

Suggested Activities
1. Have the children role play the resurrection story. Put a sheet over a table to make the tomb. When the angel says, "He is not here, He is risen!", have the children clap and cheer.
2. Teach the children this simple cheer:
God is great, the children shout!
(Cup hands around mouth like megaphone.)
From the grave He brought Christ out!
(Raise hands slowly with palms up.)
I will tell to everyone
(Hold arm straight out and point from left to right.)
God did raise His only Son.
(Point up and then hold arms as if rocking a baby.)
Practice several times until all the children can do it with confidence.
3. Talk about what will happen when we die- we will go to heaven!
4. Before class, cut out a brown construction paper tomb shape for each child (a hill with a round opening cut in the bottom). Then cut a square of yellow paper slightly larger than the opening for each child. Finally, cut a brown construction paper stone, also slightly larger than the tomb opening for each child. In class, give each child a tomb shape and a yellow square. Let him or her glue the yellow square behind the opening, so that the yellow shows through the opening. Then have each child glue his tomb on a white sheet of construction paper (the yellow square should be between the tomb and the white paper. Have each child glue the left edge of a stone shape to the left edge of his or her tomb opening, so that the stone covers the opening and opens like a door. Write in the center of each child’s yellow opening, "Jesus is alive!" Have each child draw a sun in the top corner of his or her paper to show that it is Sunday morning in the picture.
5. On white paper, write in hollow block letters, "JESUS IS ALIVE!" under an outline of a cross. Make copies, and let each child color in the cross and letters in bright colors. Tell them to post it in their houses somewhere to remember the good news. You might want to do this activity as a class poster, drawing the cross and letters on a white poster board, and letting the children color.
6. Give each child a big ball of Play dough. Have him or her make a tomb (a cave with an opening) and a stone to fill the opening. Have each child roll away the stone and peek in the empty tomb.
