Suggested Activities |
|
1. Cut construction paper so that
it can be rolled to make a "horn". Before rolling and taping each
child’s horn, let him or her decorate with markers or stickers. You
might want to use toilet paper rolls as the base of the horns. Glue
decorated paper around the roll. |
|
2. Select a stick for each child
that can be used as a torch. In class let the children tape small
orange flames of construction paper to the tops of their sticks. |
|
3. Bring a large plastic drinking
cup for each child to use as a jar. Have the children pretend to be
Gideon’s men. Have them put their horns on the table in front of them
and hold their torches, covering them with their jars. Then when you
say, "A sword for Gideon and for the Lord!" Have the children uncover
the torches and hold them high and blow their trumpets. |
|
4. Use a globe to show the
children the where their own country is located. If you are in
America, tell the children our country is the United States
("countries are different places where people live"), and that God
controls our country. Say a simple prayer for God to bless America. If
you live in another country, substitute your country for the U. S. A.
in this activity. |
|
5. Show cut out pictures or felt
figures of children of the world. Talk about how God controls all
nations where people live. |
|
6. Let the children make a U.S.A.
flag for the classroom. Bring a rectangle of white paper, a blue
square of construction paper, red and white pipe cleaners, and white
paint and cotton swabs. Have the children work together to glue the
blue square in the upper left corner of the white paper. Let the
children dip the swabs in the white paint to make "stars" on the blue
paper. Then trim some of the pipe cleaners and arrange and glue all of
the pipe cleaners to make the stripes of the flag. Remind the children
that God controls all nations. If you do not live in the U.S.A. adapt
this activity to your own country’s flag. |
|
6. Give each child a big ball of Play
dough. Have him or her make a tomb (a cave with an opening) and a
stone to fill the opening. Have each child roll away the stone and
peek in the empty tomb. |
