Why do
bad things happen?
|
|
1. The world and everything in it shows us God.
"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."
(Romans 1:20)
|
|
2. God
is love! (I John 4:8) God wants us to love Him!
"One
of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing
that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, 'Of all the
commandments, which is the most important?'
'The most important one,'
answered Jesus, 'is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the
Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your
strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.
There is no commandment greater than these.'"
(Mark 12:28-32)

|
2. If everything was good, there would be no good news!
The bad news is that sin was introduced into the world. Sin leads to death! (Romans 6:23) The good news is that Christ offers forgiveness from sin.
"For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive."
(I Corinthians 15:21,22)
|
|
3. Without discipline there is no correction or strength!
"And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons: 'My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son.
Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons."
(Hebrews 12:5-7)
|
|
4. God gives us all a choice...and must keep His word!
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal
life?"
(John 3:16)
"This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."
(I Timothy 2:3,4)
"He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned."
(Mark 16:15,16)
5. The innocent are not destroyed!
God must keep his word and judge the guilty. The innocent who die are brought into the presence of God to live with him forever.
