The idea of the rapture comes from Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21.
Let's take a look at Matthew 24.
This text does speak of some being taken and some left behind.
24:1,2...Jesus tells us what He is talking about.
24:3...His disciples asked him when it would happen.
24:4,5...When it happened, many would claim to be the Christ.
24:6-8...They would hear of wars and rumors of war. Nations would rise against nations. There would be famines and earthquakes.
24:9-14...They would be handed over to be persecuted. There would be false prophets and many would be deceived. But, the gospel would be preached to the whole world.
24:16...They would have time to run away.
24:15-33...They would witness this event. It would not be a secret.
24:40,41...Two would be together. One would be taken, the other left.

"I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened."
(24:34)
Conclusions
1. This event would happen in the lifetime of the disciples of Jesus.
2. This event would not be secret.
3. This event would not be sudden. There would be time to run to the hills.
4. Since Jesus was answering a question about the destruction of the temple, it seems reasonable to suggest he was talking about the destruction of the temple by the Romans.
5. If this is true, this is not a proof text for the rapture theory.

If this is not a proof text for the rapture theory,
where do we find the rapture theory?
