Peter- the rock?

Peter- petros...a rock that can be easily moved

The Rock- petra...a massive, unmoveable rock ledge

Matthew 16:15-18

Does this make sense?
l

Peter told us the church would be built on a solid rock ledge...the fact that Jesus is the Son of God.

s

Jesus says what Peter said is true.

ff

Jesus showed us the graphic difference between a stone and a massive rock ledge. Peter was a good example...he was quick to act without thinking...moveable. Jesus is the
unmoveable foundation.

d

Keys are used to open things. Jesus gave Peter the honor of preaching the first sermon that opened the doors to the new Kingdom of God...the church.

f

Peter was to say what the Spirit told him to say.

"He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."
(John 14:24-26)

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
(I Peter 1:20,21)
