Why would God have Peter, John and Philip leave the Samaritans so quickly after the trouble with Simon?

The special gifts of the Spirit were given to some of the people in Samaria. These individuals could do the same things as Philip, so Philip was free to go other places.

The important thing was the story, not the storyteller!

"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
(Hebrews 4:12)
