Noah and Engineering

The Bible account of the Noah flood is remarkable. Why did God have Noah build the ark 300 cubits long instead of 200 cubits long?

Those who study these things say there is a pattern in waves...they crest every 300 feet. A ship at least 450 feet long could ride the waves without turning over. Ships shorter than 300 feet would be caught between the waves and be in serious trouble.

Many large ships, including the Queen Elizabeth 2, are build to the same proportions as Noah’s Ark.

How did Moses know these things when he wrote about Noah and the flood? Why would these details be included in the story of Noah if it would be easy to show how dangerous such a boat would be in huge tidal waves caused by the pressures of a world-wide flood?
