The traditional route has the Children
of Israel crossing the Red Sea at the Sea of Reeds.
The Sea of Reeds is
a marshy area at the northern end of the Red Sea. The water is only
a few feet deep. The people could have walked across the Sea of
Reeds with little difficulty.
In Exodus 13:17,18
we read that God led the people around the Philistine country. The
Philistine country was east of Egypt almost to the Promised Land.
According to Exodus
14:1-4, God had the Children of Israel turn back and camp at Pi
Hahiroth at the edge of the Red Sea so Pharaoh would think the people were hemmed in by
the desert and the sea.
The reason for this
action was so God could be glorified by the miraculous parting of
the Red Sea. |
