Possible Explanations

The disciples took the body of Jesus.
Somehow a group of terrified disciples had to sneak up to the grave, roll away a large stone and remove the body of Jesus...without being seen by the Roman guard.

The Jews took the body of Jesus.
Jesus said he would die and be raised on the third day. The Jews wanted the body to stay in the grave. All they would have to do was open the grave after three days and produce the body of Jesus. It would have ended Christianity before it started.

Pontius Pilate just wanted this whole thing ended.

Robbers took the body of Jesus.
Robbers would have to get past the Roman guards, and there was nothing to steal.

Jesus was not really dead, woke up, removed the large stone and walked past the Roman guards.
This makes no sense!
