Judas was dead, the body of Jesus was gone, Thomas was not there and they were afraid.

Jesus appeared
In Luke 24:36-39 the disciples were afraid and thought they were seeing a ghost.
"They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead."
(John 20:8)

Jesus encourages them:
"Peace be with you!"

Jesus showed the disciples his hands and side.

The disciples were overjoyed!

But, Jesus was not finished!

"'Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.' And with that he breathed on them and said, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'"

The power of the Holy Spirit was linked to the power to forgive sins.
The apostles were to wait until Pentecost. (Luke 24:45-49)
