Judges Lesson 11 and 12: Chapters 17-21
Everyone did as he saw
fit!
These chapters are combined in 2
lessons so that teachers may spend time on issues important to the class
situation.
Purpose: "For everything
that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through
endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope."
(Romans 15:4)
Major Concept:
The importance of knowing the will of
God.
"After that whole generation had been gathered to
their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the Lord nor
what he had done for Israel."
Judges 2:10)

Compromise
Only a few are faithful!
Lessons:
1. It starts with mom!
The compromise of making idols to honor God. Refer to
Micah
2. Jotham warns the people! Refer to
Thornbush.
3. The compromise of the priesthood...allowing idolatry and the home or clan
priest for hire. (17:1-13; 18:19))
4. The delusion of compromise. They thought they were doing the right thing.

4. Trouble of their own making...they did not obey God! Refer to
Dan.
5. The compromise of morality. Refer to
concubine.
6. Stubborn rebellion in the family. The sad results. All but 600 men were
destroyed. The concern of Israel is seen in the solution for the survival of
the tribe of Benjamin. Refer to
Sad.
Application
1. When people do not know what God
wants, they do what they want!
2. It is important to be on guard. (2 Peter 3:17)
3. False teachers think they are doing right. (Romans 10:2; Galatians 1:6-9)
4. It is important to know the Word of God. (Acts 17:11; II Timothy 2:15 and
II Timothy 3:16,17)
