The book of Judges Lesson
6: Chapters 6-8
Too many for a proper victory!
Major Concept:
"For everything
that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through
endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope."
(Romans 15:4)
Sub-concepts:
1. Israel has no power of its own!
2. God chooses and encourages his heroes.
3. The victory is God's!
Lessons: 1. God knew His people! God was not upset. Under the conditions, reluctance was natural. (v. 2)
Because of his status, we understand Gideon's questions. (v. 15) 2. The Israelites needed a powerful lesson.
God cut the army so small that the Israelites could not take credit for
victory. 3. God provided the encouragement Gideon needed.
He told him to listen to what the enemy was saying. (vs. 9-15)
Application
1. We are educated and encouraged by
the realness of the Bible record.
2. God is patient and provides what is needed to get His job done.
(Matthew 28:18-20)
3. The warning in v. 33.
