Lesson 7: Chapter 9
The Self-appointed Judge

Purpose:
"For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope."
(Romans 15:4)
Review:
Covenant of Blessing and Cursing
Major Concept:
The people did not remember the Lord their God who had rescued them from all their enemies on every side. (8:34)
Sub-concepts:
Abimelech took matters into his own hands.
God is still in control!
Lessons:
1. It seemed like Abimelech was successful...but things are not as they seem.
2. The real Judge might have been Jotham. (vs. 7-15)
3. Abimelech died in disgrace.
Application
1. When people do not know what God wants, they do what they want!
2. It is important to be on guard. (2 Peter 3:17)
3. Worldly success is not the same as Godly approval.

Memory:
"Thus God repaid the wickedness that Abimelech had done to his father by murdering his seventy brothers."
(Judges 9:56)
