Look-alike non-brother
I was stunned as I stood in the waiting room of a local
hospital. Without warning, a strange woman embraced me in an honest
display of tearful affection. Just as quickly, she stepped back...as
if frozen.
She was stunned and confused. As she looked closer, she
realized I was not her brother.
Through her grief and embarrassment she explained. My
resemblance to her long-lost brother was remarkable. He had the same
walk, the same look...and even the same voice. The similarity was so
strong that even a sister was fooled.
She was shattered and
continued to sob through her apology. She had not seen her brother
in a very long time. Since her mother was very ill, she was certain
her lost brother had come home.
This innocent mistake profoundly moved me!

When I think of that day
in the hospital, I am reminded that my resolve must be to know my
Lord and His ways so well that any look-alike can be recognized as
counterfeit.
"For such men are false apostles,
deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostle of Christ. And no wonder,
for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not
surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of
righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve."
(II Corinthians 11:13-15)
