Uncle Noah Life Stories and Parables
Devotional and Meditation Thoughts

My tongue was doing gymnastics...trying to solve a desperate problem. It was difficult to concentrate, as this consuming problem plagues my soul. The beast refused to go away. It would not be ignored.
It wasn't the fattening stuff in my bowl the night before. It wasn't the salt that made the taste buds sizzle.
Finally, I could not take it one more minute. I had tried everything, but did not have what it took to solve the problem...and chase away the beast. I had to drop everything and find the most valuable tool in all the world in this situation.

Giant trees father magnificent building, wonderful musical instruments, useful fence posts, pencils, boxes, furniture and a host of other necessary, and useful, things. But, in this desperate moment its most valuable child was a small wooden sliver call a toothpick.
When the deed was done, great joy and relief filled my mouth. My soul was calmed and my tongue let out a great sigh of genuine relief. They could finally rest!

Application
One insignificant popcorn hull had altered my life, but reminded me of the significance of other small things that make up the stuff of my life. Who can put a value on the understanding smile of a friend, a courteous wave of a stranger in traffic or a slobbery kiss given by a loving grandchild? What is the worth of a kind word, a sympathetic ear or an unknown benefactor in the time of great need?
What is the significance of one thorn in a crown of thorns, or one nail through the hand of an innocent man?
Small things are the stuff of life!
