Jesus had just been announced as the Son of God!

Jesus voluntarily spent 40 days in the desert...without food!
He could have eaten locust like John. Although he had not yet performed miracles, He had the power to create his own food.
Jesus fasted on purpose!

Jesus did this as a man!
He emptied himself, and lived like a human. (Philippians 2:5-11) He felt the hunger and loneliness...just like we would feel hunger and loneliness.

Why was Jesus sent into the desert?
Matthew 4:1,2 tells us Jesus was sent into the desert to be tempted by the devil. Hebrews 4:15 tells us Jesus was tempted in every way that we are tempted.
