"Peter, however, got up and
ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by
themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened."
(v. 12)
What were the strips on linen?
"Taking Jesus' body, the two
of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in
accordance with Jewish burial customs."
(John 19:40)
These strips dried and hardened in the form of
the body.
The form was empty! John tell us the burial cloth that had
been around the head of Jesus was folded and placed separate from the linen.
