Matthew's account of the gospel
of Jesus focuses on King Jesus and His Kingdom. |

Chapters 1 & 2...The King is
born.
Matthew shows us the 42 generations from
Abraham to Joseph and Mary.
The prophecy that Jesus would be born of a virgin was fulfilled.
(Isaiah 7:14)
Matthew is the only gospel that tells the story of the wise men from
the east.
The prophecy that there would be crying in Ramah was fulfilled.
(Micah 5:2) |
Chapter 3...The Road-builder does his work.
John the Baptist prepares the way for the
King. (Isaiah 40:3)

Chapter 4...The ministry of the King begins.
Jesus is tempted. He preaches and performs
miracles. |
Chapters 5-7...Jesus teaches his disciples.
This is called the Sermon on the Mount.
The crowds who were listening were amazed because He taught with
authority. |
Chapters 8-10...The Kingdom of Heaven is at
hand.
Jesus preaches and shows He is from God
by performing miracles.
He chooses the 12 apostles. |
Chapters 11 & 12...People begin to reject
Jesus.
Jesus sends out the 12 apostles.
John the Baptist asks Jesus if He is the one they had been
expecting.
Jesus denounced the cities that would not listen to his teaching.
The Pharisees begin to challenge Jesus, and said He was
demon-possessed.

Chapters 13 & 14...Kingdom Parables and
miracles
Parables of soils, weeds and seeds.
John the Baptist is beheaded.
Jesus feed the 5,000 and walks on water. |
Chapters 15 &16...Confrontation
Jesus teaches against traditions of
men.
Jesus feeds the 4,000
Pharisees and Sadducees demand a sign. Jesus talks about the yeast
of the Pharisees.
Jesus predicts His death. |
Chapters 17-20...Preparation for the Cross
The transfiguration. Jesus is the Son
of God...listen to Him.
Jesus performs miracles and show his power over demons and nature.
Teachings on humility, compassion, forgiveness, divorce,
covetousness and pride.
Jesus predicts his death.
A mother asks for special places in the kingdom for her sons. |
Chapters 21-27...King Jesus is rejected and
killed.
The crowd rejoices as Jesus enters Jerusalem.
Jesus drives out the merchants in the temple.
Jesus teaches in parables and is confronted by religious leaders who
try to trick him.
Jesus pronounces 7 woes on Pharisees and teachers and talks about
the end of the age.
The Garden of Gethsemane
The Jews plot against Jesus and have him killed.
Peter denies Jesus and Judas betrays Jesus. |
