Evolution is based on things
changing because on the need to change...for
survival.
Can we find a reason for feelings or emotions in evolutionary
survival? Animals survive
by natural instinct, not emotion.
How
would emotions help the first human-like critter survive against the
other wild animals?
Acting
on emotions means the first human-like critter would no longer
depend on natural instincts. It had to reason...think intelligently!
Love
would be
distracting and the first human-like critters would be easily caught
and eaten. Now we have to find another human-like critter.
Hatred
would make
our human-like critters lose control and make stupid mistakes...and
become easy prey for human-like critter eaters.
Guilt
would make good human-like critters have to wrestle with killing
not-so-fortunate ordinary animals.
Stopping to look at beautiful
surroundings would make our human-like critters an easy meal for
human-like critter eaters.
Sympathy
would be a terrible thing to our first human-like critter. Our
friend would hesitate to kill for food.
The only way
our first human-like critter could survive this emotional handicap
is by using superior intelligence!
