Taste
is a really great experience...another
incredible gift from God.
Taste
can be a good thing, or a bad thing. To the
Monarch Butterfly it is great because its
enemies cannot stand how it tastes...so they
leave it alone. Taste is great for the Viceroy
Butterfly too. The Viceroy does not have the
same bad taste, but because it looks so much
like the Monarch, its enemies ignore it.
Many
creatures use taste as a defense mechanism or a
warning signal. Other creatures us taste as an
attraction. Most creatures could survive, at
least for a while, without the sense of taste. Some people can survive without the sense
of taste, but it takes away a large part of the
enjoyment of life.
It
is difficult to imagine how the complex taste
buds work. We are just glad they do. How do the
taste buds distinguish between tastes and then
send the ice cream or vinegar message to the
brain. We do not have to understand.
Taste is a remarkable gift from
our God who is interested in good
things for us.
